As Sri Lanka's Independence Day was celebrated on February 04, 2021, 'Aura Lanka' took the initiative to usher in the spirit of Independence celebrations to the 'Yaya 18' area in Rajanganaya.

The event offered villagers to experience a live Independence Day celebration.

Flowers were rained from the air while a cultural pageant featuring teams from schools in the area also added colour to the event.

The event was fully sponsored by 'Aura Lanka' chairman - Dr. Viranjith Thambugala using his private wealth.

After the main event, a dancing competition was also held for children of the 'Yaya 18 Thirasara Haritha Prajamoola' children's society. The competition featured 06 age groups and were judged by a panel of popular artistes including Romesh Sugathapala, Theekshana Anuradha, Himali Siriwardena and Lionel Gunaratne. Winners were awarded cash prizes upto Rs. 100,000 by 'Aura Lanka' directress - Mrs. S.M. Chandani Samaraweera.

Addressing the event, President of the 'Yaya 18 Thirasara Haritha Prajamoola organisation - Sarath Premananda praised Dr. Thambugala for being a humble and exemplary human being who knows the heartbeat of the common man, despite being a globally renowned ingenious medicine practitioner and entrepreneur. "I am beyond proud that our village is blessed with such a genuine person," he said.

"Most businessmen these days, are only interested in filling their pockets. They try to move ahead while trampling on innocent people. Therefore, in such times, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Thambugala on behalf of the villagers, for spending so much of his personal wealth to give these children a wonderful  opportunity to witness such an event," he added.

Rajanganaya Divisional Secretary - Mr. Sunil Abeykoon, Anuradhapura HQI  Sanjeewa Mahanama as well as regional government officials and representatives of regional political circles attended the event.
