After the extensive restoration of the Kahabiliyapitiya Tank, water was ceremoniously released towards the paddy fields of farmers in the 'Yaya 18' region in Rajaganaya.

The auspicious event took place on Dec. 17, 2020 under the auspices of Chairman of Aura Lanka Herbals - Dr. Chandika Viranjith Thambugala.

Rajanganaya Divisional Secretary - Sunil Abeykona, Deputy Chairman of the Rajanganaya PS - Saman Weerasinghe, Chairman of the Rajanganaya Yaya 18 Sustainable Green Plant Fund - Sarath Pemananda and a large number of farmers in the area attended the event.

The 'Yaya 18' region is located 16kms away from the Rajanganaya Tank and for a prolonged period of time, farmers of the area faced much hardship due to lack water for their crops.

Understanding their difficulties, Dr. Thambugala had restored the Kahabiliyapitiya Tank, which is located much nearer, at an expense of Rs. 17 million.

A few years back, the tank was overgrown with weeds, and it was impossible to retain at least at least 30 ft of water during the rainy season.

Today, the tank has a capacity to retain sufficient water for around 150 acres of paddy fields for both the 'Yala' and 'Maha' farming seasons.
